Welcome to the getting started guide for SLAC learners. As a Construction Subcontractor, you will need to fulfill certain training requirements to work onsite or use SLAC resources. This guide will help you answer the following questions:

  • What training courses am I required to take?
  • How do I take web training?

Your Required Training

When you arrive at SLAC, certain training courses will be assigned to you automatically based on your designation.  Your supervisor or point of contact may require additional training based on the specific roles and responsibilities of your job.

Minimum Required Training

Construction Subcontractors are required to complete, at a minimum the following web based course:

  • Course 375 - Safety Orientation for Construction Subcontractors(SOC). There is also a Spanish-language version of this course available.

Taking Training

Most courses are generally offered via one or more of the following three methods:

  • Web-Based Training: These self-paced courses can be completed from anywhere, as long as you have an Internet connection, and your computer meets our basic system requirements.
  • Classroom Training: SLAC offers a wide variety of on-site instructor-led training. You must register for these classes in advance using the course registration tool.
  • Practical Training: Practical training is one-on-one training where a qualified observer validates that you are qualified to perform certain activity.

Launching Web-Based Courses

You can launch SLAC web-based training courses from the following locations:

You need a SLAC System ID in order to take training from the SLAC Web Training portal. If you do not have a SLAC System ID, please follow the instructions to get one here.

  • From the web-based training portal: You may log in directly to the SLAC web-based training portal page. If you do not have a SLAC Windows computer account, you will need your SLAC System ID # as well as a password which you can request through our support system here.
    • After log-in, click on the Course Catalog link under where it says Start Here.
      • Enter the number and/or name of the course you need in the Learning Search box at the top of the screen to find your course.
    • This will bring up the course landing page. Click the Launch button to launch the course.
      • NOTE: You are not required to take all the courses listed. Only take those courses assigned to you by your supervisor/SLAC contact.
    • Once you have completed your courses, save a copy of your certificates of completion!

Note: Once you complete a web-based training course, it may take up to 2 hours for the completion to be reflected in your training record.
